More Information on Kenmore 50701
by: Brian

Since I wrote the review for the Kenmore 50701 70 Pint Dehumidifier I have learned some more about it, so I am posting this to update the review.

I have owned this device for two weeks now. It has dried out my basement to around 40% and kept it there. Since I started using it, the weather here has cooled off and dried out. The dehumidifier has shut itself off entirely, including the fan, which runs occasionally for a second or so. So my assumption that the fan would run continuously on this model was incorrect. The user manual does not say what to expect in this regard, merely stating that the fan speed is controlled automatically. The unit does shut off completely when it is satisfied with the conditions.

I have removed and cleaned the air filter as recommended and found that there was very little dirt in it. Removing and replacing the filter is very easy. Turn off the unit to avoid having it pull air through the coils with no filter in place. Remove the bucket, push the bottom of the filter gently toward the back of the dehumidifier and pull the filter down from behind the grille.

To replace the filter, put it into the large slot at the front and bottom just behind the grille, push it up behind the grille, and allow the bottom of the filter to snap forward to hold it in place. No significant force is required for any of these operations. If you have to force it, you have it in the wrong slot (there is a very small slot just behind the large one ). Replace the bucket and turn the dehumidifier back on.
