Dri-CrawlSpace Dehumidifiers by Oscar Air

Can you tell me any thing about these units and how they compare to Santa Fe and Ebac? I know Ebac are not EnergyStar rated - Am I correct? I found out about these units, but I do not see in the list of units you've reviewed.

Thanks!

I will deal with the question of Energy Star certification first. The Ebac unit mentioned in my earlier answer is not Energy Star certified. This is because its performance is optimized for harsh industrial applications where the value of the assets being protected is so great that energy efficiency is secondary to outright performance.

In the less demanding environments of most residential applications the balance between energy efficiency and effectiveness may be weighted more heavily towards controlling energy costs. For this reason I only recommend Ebac units for use in unusually harsh conditions. For example, if a user has a valuable classic car stored in a garage in which the temperature may only be a degree or two above freezing point the Ebac may be the best choice. The logic is the same; the cost of repairing corrosion damage or, if irreparable, the reduction in the value of the car, may be so high that that the increased energy bills are trivial in comparison.

While we are on the subject of Energy Star certification Oscar Air dehumidifiers are awaiting the outcome of an application to Energy Star. This may be resolved at any time but the last time I checked, about a month ago, it had not yet been finalized.

You are correct in saying that we have not yet reviewed Oscar Air Dehumidifiers. These units are relatively new to the market and only obtainable through licensed installers. For this reason there is almost no feed-back from customers about these dehumidifiers.

While we could present details of their performance, as published by the distributor, we could not evaluate these units without analyzing customer reactions. What I can tell you is that the capacity of the two units in the Oscar Air range is 35 pints and 50 pints per day respectively. This makes their water extraction capacity less than that of the smallest Santa Fe unit.

In my opinion the capacity of these units is only sufficient for relatively small crawl spaces. I have no reliable information about the durability and longevity of Oscar Air dehumidifiers. In light of the lower capacity and lack of information about quality we cannot, at present, recommend them to our visitors.
