Danby DDR45E Dehumidifier Review

The Danby DDR45E is a new 45 pint dehumidifier from one of the best known manufacturers in the USA. This medium capacity model is already being well received by users whose reviews of the appliance are very positive.

The Danby DDR45E replaces the highly regarded DDR4010E 40 pint unit which is still available for sale from some retailers and online stores. The additional 12.5% water extraction capacity will reduce the daily running time of this unit in any given area which may make it more attractive to users than its predecessor.

Description

The Danby DDR45E is an Energy Star® certified portable model ideal for use in moderately sized basements and other areas of your home. The manufacturer suggests that it will be suitable for areas of up to 2500 square feet, depending on conditions, but I recommend that for energy efficient and effective operation it should be used in areas of up to 700 square feet.

This model will perform most effectively in a warmer basement, above 65°F. In such conditions it should give excellent service and I have no hesitation in recommending it to our visitors. It includes all the features of the larger models in the range including an adjustable humidistat, continuous drainage option, auto-defrost, electronic controls and auto-restart.

Features

• Portable - The Danby DDR45E weighs just 33.5lbs, a little less than the 40 pint DDR4010E. It has four casters and two side mounted carrying handles. It is compact with a "foot-print" of 13.375 x 10.125 inches.
  
  
• Adjustable Humidistat - This can be easily set using the electronic control panel and any level may be chosen, from 30-90%, in increments of 5%.
  
  
• Auto-Defrost -This feature protects the appliance from damage in cooler temperatures. At these lower temperatures (below 65°F), of course, this type of portable unit is less effective.
  
  
• Continuous Drainage - A hose attached to the outlet port will allow the condensate to flow to any adjacent sump or floor drain as an alternative to emptying the bucket. Users report that the continuous drainage facility on the Danby DDR45E is easy to set up and works effectively.
  
  
• Electronic Controls - The appliance is operated by means of easy to use, soft-touch electronic controls and monitored by a digital display on the control panel. The digital display will show the level of relative humidity being programmed with the humidistat when the device is being adjusted. At other times it displays the relative humidity in the room. The controls are reported by users to be simple and intuitive and are a strong feature of this model.
  
  
• Auto-Restart - This feature restarts the appliance, following a power outage, at the previously programmed settings.

Consumer Reactions

User reviews of the DDR45E are positive and there are no complaints about its performance. It is found by all users to be effective if used in a suitably sized area, including smaller basements.

Reviewers praise the water collection bucket with its convenient handle. It is reported to be easy to remove and replace although some complained that its capacity is too small.
